Ishihama, I ran your program for almost 10 minutes and it made a complete ring covering all edges of the board. Is this a common occurrence? -- Jeffrey Quinn (jquinn8@rhf.bradley.edu) _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ Message: 3 Date: Sun, 11 Jul 1999 01:25:39 +0900 From: Ishihama Yoshiaki Subject: Re: [eternity] Hi At 9:53 AM -0500 99.7.10, Jeff Quinn wrote: > From: Jeff Quinn > > Ishihama Yoshiaki wrote: > > > I made java applet that create only edge of Eternity. > > All pieces that appear in this applet are all those of Eternity Pieces. > > But combination is nearly infinite , so it is impossible to get solution > > pattern. > > Ishihama, > > I ran your program for almost 10 minutes and it made a complete ring > covering all edges of the board. Is this a common occurrence? > It is common occurrence. When I added more restriction to that complete ring, only 1 per 100 or 200 is good ring. That restriction is , to check all remain cell if there are adequit piece that fit to its cell. "Fit" means, remain no 30 degree, island, small space, etc. //----------------------------------------// Ishihama Yoshiaki Tokyo Chofu E-mail: ishmnn@cap.bekkoame.ne.jp HomePage : http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~hq8y-ishm/ //--------------------------------------// _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ Message: 4 Date: Sat, 10 Jul 1999 18:28:07 +0100 From: Angus Walker Subject: Re: ridiculous thread OK - can I have piece 166 please, because it's the kinkiest? -- Angus Walker _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ Message: 5 Date: Sat, 10 Jul 1999 13:52:02 EDT From: Krysnkaz@aol.com Subject: Re: [eternity] Re: ridiculous thread We'd like to take piece 42 if no-one has any objections - it may have some meaning? Note Many thanks ! If I should solve the puzzle (not likely :-))) then I'll remember you :-) > that most of the straight edges are made up of a number of smaller edges. > This is due to the way I computed the edges from my shape representation, Actually I think this is an advantage. This way I don't have to worry how the triangles are aligned in the piece (it helps to eliminate a few cases in piece placements). BTW, how do you represent the pieces internally ? I store them as a DCEL (doubly connected edge list, easy to create and makes it easy to find bugs :-). tv -- Thomas Voigt | spock@berlin.snafu.de, tvoigt@comitatus.de ================================================================== I have a message to deliver to the cute people of the world...if you're cute, or maybe you're beautiful...there's MORE OF US UGLY MOTHERF#^&^#$ OUT THERE THAN YOU ARE!!
